Purpose of education

I believe that the primary goal of education is to allow individuals to acquire basic knowledge, learn social norms, develop skills crucial to daily living, such as interacting with others, and learn how to differentiate right from wrong. Education helps learners navigate life and make significant societal contributions. Education improves communication and critical thinking skills, promotes gender equality, alleviates child mortality, and increases the chances of learners’ securing better jobs. I believe that education encourages learners’ development of problem-solving skills, empowerment, and self-reliance. Education also sponsors equality among persons, financial security, stability, and economic growth. Education teaches students life lessons in and out of a classroom setting, allowing them to become moral and civilized citizens.

Beliefs about different learning styles in various settings

Different learning styles in various settings are significant because individuals have their way of learning. Some learners learn better by touching, listening, or watching. I believe that learning styles significantly impact academic and learning achievement. They forecast academic performance and direct curriculum design. Understanding learning methods simplifies forming and adopting effective educational programs and curricula. The styles also endorse learners’ participation in educational programs, inspiring them to attain professional knowledge. Individuals’ preferred learning methods vary, and identifying the chosen style assists teachers in incorporating approaches that benefit scholars. I am confident that a person’s learning style influences and determines how they develop competencies, absorb information, comprehend processes, and apply skills in a practical setting.

How to facilitate student learning

Facilitating learning requires applying strategies that integrate technological developments into the learning space to maintain learners’ engagement. Evaluating the learners and offering a customized plan and a learner-centered teaching style is also crucial. I see teaching as involving a reciprocal association between scholars and teachers. I believe that students have obligations to their teachers, and teachers have responsibilities to their scholars. Fulfilling these duties facilitates student learning. Scholars should support their teachers by working hard to complete course activities and applying the learned lessons in real-life situations. Part of my responsibility involves facilitating student learning by creating a conducive learning environment, offering knowledge, materials, feedback, and opportunities to assist them in attaining their goals and motivating them to do their best. Simplifying the educational process for scholars facilitates their learning.

The role of the nurse educator

A nurse educator is accountable for instructing and teaching nurses at universities, colleges, and clinical settings. I will offer continuing mentorship, inspire and lead by example, playing an essential role in facilitating and promoting students’ clinical development. I intend to facilitate student learning, apply different learning styles in various settings, and sponsor quality nurse education as I grow and develop as a nurse educator. Currently, most learning classrooms have diverse student populations with diverse learning needs and expectations. During my internship as a nurse educator, I taught students from varied backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, ages, and with diverse learning needs. I knew I had to think creatively and develop an interactive learning environment to foster their success. At first, meeting every student’s learning need was challenging, and I often had unmanageable workloads, leading to frustration. Effective communication was a problem at first because individuals from different backgrounds use and interpret communication methods differently due to varying cultures, beliefs, and attitudes. Significantly, the communication methods are non-verbal, verbal, interpersonal, presentational, and interpretative, which differ across cultures. I had to identify creative and student-centered approaches to facilitate learning and accommodate their needs. Successful nursing scholars require skilled nurse educators who value, reflect, and appreciate their diverse attributes.

I used The National League of Nursing (NLN) key competencies to augment their success. The competencies define the educator practices’ scope and function as an evidence-based outline for curricular plans and proposals in lineups that prepare nurse educators. The NLN competencies include facilitating learning, facilitating learner socialization and development, utilizing evaluation and assessment methods, participating in scholarship, operating within the educational environment, functioning as a change leader and agent, following constant quality improvement in the nurse educator function, and engaging in curriculum design and assessment of program outcomes (Keating et al., 2021). To promote effective communication when applying these key competencies, I gave feedback, applied simplicity, active listening, straightforwardness, spoke clearly, and understood I was working with diverse students. Understanding that learners have unique features and needs is the basis of effective and responsive teaching. Addressing their learning needs is a challenge that can be solved by incorporating effective strategies to meet their needs. The NLN competencies provide an excellent outline to assist educators in advancing into specialized faculty and meeting the learning needs of diverse students.
