Education Level

Registered nurses are the leading professional groups that provide quality patient care. Healthcare is essential since it helps determine the health status of the citizens in the country. For the citizens to be well taken care of, the nurses must be well equipped with good education so that it becomes easy for them to practice professionally. There are around 2.5 million licensed Registered Nurses, and almost 2 million are employed in this profession (Hajizadeh et al., 2021). A good nurse can deliver quality, highly skilled, and evidenced-based care to all citizens, enhancing quality patient care. The education level achieved by these nurses affects their competence and quality as they participate in policy making. This essay will therefore discuss the importance of nurses in participating in policy making and influencing different regulations. Through this, the nurses will have high competence that will enable them to participate effectively in policy making.

Nurse education consists of both theoretical and practical training. The training is provided to the nurses to be well prepared to perform their duties as nursing care professionals. There are different categories of nurse education: non-degree, degree, and advanced degree (BARZEGAR SAFARI et al., 2020). The non-degree nurses include certified nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses. These do not have adequate education that can help them make good suggestions about various policies. On the other hand, the degree nurses include those with an undergraduate degree in the field of nurses. These burses are more qualified and can make good decisions regarding various nursing policies. The advanced degree nurses have a graduate degree like a master’s or Doctor of Nursing Practice (Hajizadeh et al., 2021). The more a nurse is qualified education-wise, the better they are in formulating policies that affect quality healthcare delivery.

According to the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN), today’s nursing workforce is achieving greater levels of education directly relating to positive patient outcomes (Barzegar et al., 2020). The more a nurse is educated and experienced, the better the patient outcomes, and the easier for them to formulate and be part of nursing regulations. Nurses understand the patients’ needs and how to get to a place where everyone can get quality care within the shortest time possible. Following this, it is crucial to give the nurses the chance to make nursing policies as they are still the ones to make them effective. It is also essential for educational institutions to find different ways to improve nursing programs (Hajizadeh et al., 2021). This can be done by enhancing capacity so that more students are absorbed and graduate qualified nurses promptly. Through this, it becomes easy for the graduate nurses to suggest new policies that will guide the healthcare department in enhancing quality care for all.

Nurses must influence the regulations so that it becomes easy to implement them. Nurses should get involved in politics and policies at the state and federal levels by joining various professional nursing organizations (Barzegar et al., 2020). Through the organizations, it becomes easy for the nurses to bring forward multiple nursing issues and provide relevant suggestions. Nurses gather information from various healthcare institutions so that by the time they implement a policy, they are sure that the policy will help enhance quality care.

As discussed above, education level correlates to patient outcomes and implementation of policy regulations. Highly qualified nurses are influential in developing different rules that enhance quality care. When the registered nurses influence the regulations, it becomes more effective, and its goals are easily achieved. Nursing institutions should therefore ensure that they enhance their education programs so that highly skilled and qualified professionals graduate from there.
